Hair Removal Methods
Different Methods of Hair Removal have diferent effects for different areas in your body, choose the best methods for your needs. The main hair removal methods include: depilatory, shaving, electrolysis, waxing, sugaring, inhibitors and laser hair removal, etc.
Depilatory contains chemicals with a high degree of acidity which can
remove hair from skin surface. But epilatory such as waxing or tweezing
removes the hair from below the skin's surface taking out the hair
follicle. Depilatory cause hair to disintegrate while leaving the roots
intact, so it permits hair regrowth. By disintegrating chemical bonds
in the hair shaft, a depilatory turns hair into a gelatinous mass,
which is then wiped away. Because these agents dissolve protein, they
also affect the skin and can irritate if left on too long. Two types of
depilatories are available, the sulfide types are more effective, but
their odor is pungent and they are more irritating. The thioglycolate
types must be left on longer, but they are more easily perfumed and are
not so irritating. There are also wax depilatories, which are
comparable to widespread tweezing. Warm wax is placed on the skin,
allowed to dry, and then peeled off with the hairs attached. A
depilatory lotion or liquid is designed for larger areas of the body
such as the legs, underarms and bikini area. This hair removal lasts
around two weeks, longer than razor shaving.
Shaving is a quick and effective physical method of hair removal, and
it would not causes hair to grow back more abundantly or rapidly.
However, it leaves the cut shaft of hair in place, so regrowth is
inevitable. Choose razor should depend on the density of your hair
growth, smooth gels or lotions are needed before shaving. Tweezing is
good for isolated hairs and some facial areas, painful, but is
effective in hair removal. Each pluck starts another growing cycle in
the hair root, it's not a permanent method.
Electrolysis is a permanent method of hair removal. Hair bulb is
destroyed by an electric current so that hair cannot regrow. A small
electric current is then applied which destroys the hair root. Each
hair has to be treated individually. However, electrolysis may be
complicated by temporary irritation from the procedure or later, by
pitlike scarring. Also, incomplete destruction may allow hair to grow
back. As with everything, the quality of the results depends on the
skill of the operator.
Waxing is a temporary hair removal method. New hairs do not grow back
in the waxed area for three to eight weeks. Almost any area of the body
can be waxed, including eyebrows, face, bikini area, legs, arms, back,
abdomen and feet. Waxing should not be done on areas of skin affected
by warts, pimples, moles or rashes or on skin that is irritated.
Sugaring is a method of hair removal similar to waxing, but the
depilatory used is a mixture of sugar and honey. A paste made primarily
of the mixture is applied to the surface of the skin. The sugaring
paste is then removed taking the hair along with it. It is more
expensive and time-consuming than waxing, but gentler and less painful.
Hair Inhibitors decreases or prevents hair growth, changing the
structure of the hair follicle the hair gradually becomes finer and
softer until it finally disappears. This method applied to the skin
after using a hair removal method such as shaving or waxing. When used
after waxing the results seem better than with other methods. The
solution is rubbed or sprayed onto the skin so it penetrates the pores
and reaches the hair follicle.
Laser Hair Removal is an epilation performed by laser. The laser uses a
wavelength of light which passes through the skin. So no residual left
in the body.
